The MTN brand ambassador who had a great year in 2017 has hit the ground running, releasing another work set to serenade fans and music lovers. Cool Temper’ featuring Burna Boy was a hit song inspired by Fela’s own song, became a club banger played by major radio stations in Lagos, Abuja and beyond. Now Kpete Wicked is another.
The song is off his successful 2017 sophomore album, The Never Say Never Guy. ‘Kpete Wicked’ is produced by Jay Pizzle and recently completed video is directed by Tee Tash. Shot in Toronto, Canada, the video showcases Skales adorned in colourful floral prints, celebrating with bottles of champagne.
‘Kpete Wicked’ is a mid-tempo song that incorporates traditional Yoruba acoustics with short saxophone interludes by creating an overarching sound that fans can groove to. The song sees Skales recounting his blessings, according to him “I feel no more pain; God don answer my prayer.”
Having won a music talent hunt in Jos, Skales whose real name is Raul John Jheng is a singer who at a time was constrained as rapper under EME. He later left in 2015 to Baseline Records and is now under his own imprint label.
