The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has described as malicious and false a report that the embattled Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, who is in its custody, is seriously ill.
According to a statement signed by the Kano State command spokesman, DSC Musbahu Nasarawa, the service called on the general public to discountenance this as falsehood which is a figment of the imagination of the author.
It will be recalled that a report has been trending on social media insinuating that Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir Kabara is seriously sick to the extent that he is bleeding in a correctional facility in Kano.
He, however, disclosed that Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara is accorded the awaiting trial privilege of eating food prepared for him by his family. Even the water he drinks are all from his family that gives it to him after inspection by the correctional centre officers.
While speaking on Thursday morning, Sheikh Abduljabbar’s Lawyer, Rabiu Shuiabu Abdullahi corroborated the correctional centre’s story.
He said, “It is a lie. There was no such story from me that Sheikh Abduljabbar is seriously sick and may have been poisoned.
“I am the only lawyer representing the cleric and the person that can speak on his behalf.
“Although the cleric is sick but the correctional centre has been very supportive to us and our client, hence that story is not true.
“Please, we rely on people like you to tell the true story to the public.’’
It will also be recalled that Seikh Abduljabbar is standing trial for blasphemy and incitement charges
