Self esteem: How you value yourself (II)

Published by

WE have been discussing the necessity of having a healthy self-esteem as a prerequisite to making our lives count. Today we will look at how to have healthy self-esteem.

  1. To boost your self-esteem, you need to identify the negative beliefs you have about yourself, then challenge them and renew your mind to see yourself like God sees you based on His word.

“Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous†”how well I know it.” Psalm 139.14 NLT.

  1. Believe what the Bible says about you.

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13

“You can trust yourself into greatness, or you can doubt yourself into oblivion. You can trust yourself into excellence, or you can doubt yourself into mediocrity. You can trust yourself into victory, or you can doubt yourself into defeat.” William Arthur Ward.

  1. Always do a self-analysis of your life but never shoot yourself in the foot by being over-critical.

“Being self-critical means you often judge yourself harshly. It’s when you frequently focus on your mistakes or flaws, blowing them out of proportion. While it’s normal to evaluate your actions and learn from them, being too self-critical can lead to unnecessary stress and lower self-esteem.” Calmer-you.com

“Most of us consciously aspire to be the best we can and to do the right thing, and self-analysis can serve us as a tool for measuring our efforts and achievements. While analysis is a healthy way to observe our own behaviour and learn how to overcome weaknesses and bad habits, it often transforms into self-devaluation. Often we self-criticise on autopilot and need to wake up and realize the damage we are doing. “ Loretta G. Breuning

  1. Right association. Surround yourself with bold, honest people who can build your self-esteem.
  2. Avoid comparing yourself to anybody. You are a unique one of a kind person.

“You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.” Psalm 139:15 NLT.

  1. Right confession. You become what you confess. Your words can either motivate or demotivate you.

“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit – you choose.” Proverbs 18:21 MSG.

You are a unique and special creation of God and to make your life count you must live consciously of this understanding.

“I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this. “ Psalm 139.14 GW

Your life can not count if you do not love yourself. You cannot love yourself if you have a low self-esteem.

“Loving yourself as a whole person and knowing your uniqueness allows you to be YOU. Being authentic. Staying true to yourself and to what you believe to be right.

Not worrying excessively about what others think.

Taking care of yourself and looking after your own needs rather than pleasing others.

Having healthy boundaries with other people and treating yourself with dignity and respect. Being assertive and speaking up for yourself. Daring to say no to things you don’t want to do.

Focusing on your life without the need to compare yourself to others. Being able to acknowledge and celebrate other people’s achievements. Being okay with spending time alone.

Taking responsibility for your feelings and actions instead of blaming other people or your circumstances. Being open to change what you don’t like in your life and what is changeable.

Believing that you are worthy of the best things life has to offer: good health, love and affection, financial abundance, professional success.” Sarah Fabian
