The Scout Association of Nigeria, Mushin Divisional Scout Council, has inducted Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi of the Department of Philosophy at Lagos State University (LASU) as its vice president.

Professor Afisi was inducted at an event on Saturday.

Speaking at the reception, he disclosed that he joined the Boy Scouts of Nigeria, as it was then known, in 1982.

The department of philosophy lecturer said, “It was both exciting and reflexive, having originally joined the Boy Scouts of Nigeria (as it was then called) in 1982.

“The impact that the scout movement has on young people and the influence it has on positively moulding young minds are evident in how some of us turned out.

“The benefits of scouting are inexhaustible. Joining the Scouts is a life-long experience that extends far beyond childhood and adolescence.

“The skills, values, and relationships formed through Scouts can have a lasting impact, shaping individuals into capable, confident, and compassionate leaders.

“Through Scouts, individuals can develop a strong foundation for a happy, healthy, and successful life, with benefits that can be felt for decades to come.”

Speaking further on the benefits, he said, “I can say for a fact that scouting helps in developing essential life skills in first aid and camping

“It also helps in building confidence and self-esteem, and it also comes with the opportunity to make friends and socialise.

“It’s all about service to humanity, as being a member gives one the opportunity to engage in community service and volunteer.

“Talk about outdoor education and adventure, leadership and teamwork skills, personal growth and development with improved physical and mental health, and enhanced career opportunities both locally and globally.”
