THE Edo state capital Benin was a beehive of activity Wednesday and Thursday as two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), aspirants, Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido stormed the secretariat to drum support for their presidential bid.
Saraki who breezed in on Wednesday night lamented that the nation has not been so divided as it is presently, because of the maladministration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
On his part, Lamido who was in Benin yesterday lashed out at Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), for impoverishing Nigerians.
Lamido said that the APC as a party was built on lies and propaganda and was leading the country to a path of destruction.
He, however, advised that Nigerians must eschew sentiment and vote for competency in the forthcoming 2019 election in order to get the nation back on the right track.
He made the passionate appeal when he visited the Edo State party secretariat of PDP to solicit support ahead of the party’s delegates congress.
adding that the nation at this moment needed a president that can unite the nation as one.

“Unfortunately the country is at the point where we need to take some very tough decision for the present and for the future.
The country has never been so divided than as it today under President Muhammadu. We need to unite this country. And in uniting this country, we must have a president that can speak for Nigeria, we must have a president that everybody has a sense of belonging, we must have a president that you all feel that is representing you, you have a president that does not in anyway do injustice to anybody, we must have a president and a government where Edo State has a key role on the people, where things are done by justice and equity, it is not the time where you will cede all appointments to only one part of the country.
“It is time for us to unite and to do that, we must move away from electing a president based on sentiment.
The Senate president averred that it is time for Nigerians to look for a leader that has the capacity to grow the nation’s economy pointing out that there is no place in the world where its economy grows by chance but has to be worked out by its citizens and with a competent leader directing its affairs.
“It is time for us to look for a president that understands what it takes to grow a country. Country that has grown, did not grow by chance, country that has grown, did not grow by try and error, country that we talked about, the Asia countrythat developed Asians Tigers, grew because they had a visionary leaders, they had a leader that understood what the issues are.”
The former Jigawa governor said that the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole abandoned the Labour Party which he ought to naturally belong to in place of the APC, noting that he had never for once stood up for Nigerian workers by advocating for a new minimum wage.
SARAKI’S BLACK HOLE.
Saraki is asking us, or promising to do so many things that are incongrous with his person, personality, and how we have come to perceive him.
** He says the youths should vote for a digitized president, but he removed the Card Reader and all other electronic references in the Electoral Amendment Bill- something an analog Neanderthal would have done. But we all know that beyond his privileged upbringing, the urbane, smooth surface, and opportunistic glorious words lies a monster that would prefer the country to be stuck in the retrogressive rot that made people like him to lord over us. Or shouldnt we start by digitizing our votes to promote free and fair elections, and to guard against rigging?
** When he says he wants to strengthen our banks, I believe him. Most of us just deposit money, cash cheques, or use the ATM, but those who looted, bankrupted banks, and dabbled into offshore money laundering are better placed to strengthen our banks and the banking system. Or exploit them further.
Then too, by the time he gives his boys juicy crumbs, maybe they wont feel the urge to go shoot up some banks and kill innocent people for fun after a bout with shisha.
** Isnt it an irony that the same person that has been directly implicated in supplying funding, arms and logistics to his political thugs who became armed robbers would be talking about insecurity? Na me and you buy the guns? Na me and you keep delinquents on our payroll? At least we could say he kept his boys gainfully employed, and even armed robbery is a job.
** What is he going to say about our infrastructural deficit, or the underfunded critical projects littered all over when he orchestrated the sharing of funds to build Town Halls and the purchase of Sewing Machines? How do you develop a country with that sort of mindset? Or would his priorities be different if he gets elected?
** Then he talks about unifying the country, and you are reminded of the way he suspended senators for dissent and cowered them into silence or passive acquiescence. Maybe unity is synonymous with the absence of dissent and contrary opinions. In Saraki’s world view, once you agree to share and eat from the same pot quietly, there is unity.
But somebody that wants to unite us should unite with his sister, and even spiritually, if possible, with his late father- shebi na hin get all the marabouts and alfas?
** Then he talks of impunity, and you point to Dino, our latest gorilla specie and back-flipping action hero, who personifies that impunity- and also happens to be his favourite court jester.
I guess treating the Senate like an extension of his personal estate, or mangling the budget of 200mil lost souls doesnt qualify as an impunity, it was an act of love.
Under his watch, critical bills have been ignored because of a vexatious need to flex infantile muscles to prove his relevance, or abandoned because they could interfere with his political and personal ambitions.
** Should somebody who led the conspiracy to ignore or disregard our urgent needs in the face of a crippling and biting recession be telling us about hardship? When he bought exotic cars, increased their allowances, running costs, and constituency budgets, did he remember our hardship?
** If Saraki had thought we were worth his attention, he should have come with a legislative agenda that would have spurred reforms and a much more harmonised structure governance culture. Those who want to fall mugu for Saraki are free to, just dont rub that shit in our faces. Buhari might not be perfect, but most of us would rather live with his mistakes than to be mocked daily by those retarding our progress.
Sometimes I laughed with such act from our leaders who still behaves live pupils. All I know is that my vote count for the man who is ready to fix our problems. Vote PMB
PMB till 2023
