A one-day meeting of Southeast Governors has ended in Enugu with a fresh call for stronger economic regional integration in the zone.
Rising from their marathon meeting at Government House, Enugu on Sunday, the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, David Umahi of Ebonyi State, who read the communique, said they would undertake the construction of Ring Road covering a total of 430 km, stressing that it would connect all the five states to ease transportation system in the zone.
Umahi also said that they lauded the former Minister for Power, Professor Barth Nnaji, for presentation on his Aba Independent Power Project, adding that they asked him to liaise with the Secretariat for further implementation with the Presidency.
They also took presentations for Gas pipelines in the southeast zone, advising the Consultants to follow up on details of implementation especially as it relates to right of way.
The governor also said they received a Lottery business proposal from a private business enterprise, adding that they advised him to reach out to various states in the zone on the proposal.
On the alleged crisis in Southeast Traditional Council, the governors said that they have urged the states chairmen of the council for their next meeting with a view to resolving the problem.
They also beat their chests for the able way they worked together in giving the former Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, a befitting burial.
Governors of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, were present while Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State was represented by his deputy.
