In a bid to reduce maternal and infant mortality, the Rotary Club of Ibadan, District 9126, in partnership with Omotayo Maternity Home, has organised a training programme for health workers and pregnant women on postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) management and neonatal resuscitation in the three primary healthcare centres in Ibadan.
The programme, which also featured the donation of medical equipment to the beneficiary facilities, was held at the PHC, in Molete, Apete and Moniya areas in Ibadan metropolis.
Speaking, president of the club, Mr. Olufisayo Ogunbiyi, said the initiative formed part of Rotary International’s Maternal and Child Health programme aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services for mothers and children.
He explained that the project was designed to address preventable maternal and newborn deaths through the provision of essential medical equipment, healthcare education and capacity building for frontline health workers.
Ogunbiyi said many PHCs continue to face shortages of critical medical equipment, a situation that affects service delivery and puts the lives of mothers and infants at risk.

“Quality healthcare is a fundamental right, yet many primary health centres face critical equipment shortages that hinder their ability to serve the public. We are here to fill some of the gaps and support healthcare providers in delivering better services,” he said.
He noted that improving maternal and child healthcare remains one of the organisation’s key priorities, adding that strategic partnerships will continue to be pursued to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
The facilitator, Mrs. Olapeju Agunbiade, a member of the club and a United Kingdom-based nurse, took participants through emergency response procedures and hands-on demonstrations to improve their competence in handling maternal and neonatal emergencies.
The matrons of the beneficiary health centres, in separate remarks, expressed gratitude to the club and Omotayo Maternity Home for the support, describing the donation as timely and impactful.
They pledged to make effective use of the donated equipment and called for sustained collaboration to further strengthen healthcare services in their communities.
Health workers from the three facilities and several expectant mothers participated in the programme, which provided them with valuable knowledge and practical skills aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes.
