Rotary Club of Iyaganku-Ibadan inaugurates renovated children’s maternity ward

Rotary Club of Iyaganku-Ibadan on Friday donated medical equipment worth millions of naira to Ade-Oyo State Hospital, Ibadan as part of its child and maternal care intervention programme.

The items donated include waste bins, mosquito nets, birthing kits, fetal doppler, pedal dustbins (20 units), sterilizer unit, baby weighing scale, ward screens, anglepoise lamp, bedsheets for babies and mothers, window blinds, and demarcation.

The club also changed the hospital’s toilet seat and painted the whole maternity ward unit.

While speaking, the club president, Mr Iwadola Samson, said the intervention will go a long way in helping the hospital and nursing mothers.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items donated.

Samson said: “At Rotary, we serve humanity and through our July theme, which is Child and Maternal Care, we do everything to support select hospitals.

“The director in charge of the project identified this hospital, but it is one thing for us to identify and it is another thing for government to support us.

“The management of the hospital was helpful and instrumental as they accepted us and guided us on how we could improve this ward and that started the whole process.

“As the work progressed, we realised that it is not a one-off deal but it is what should be an ongoing partnership. So I’m delighted that we have enough support and assurance from the management of the hospital that whatever we do will be adequately maintained.”

Also, District Governor 9126, Kayode Olowolagba, said the mission of the club is to bridge the gap by supporting the government in providing social amenities for residents of such communities.

According to him, “Rotary Club will always prioritize the welfare of pregnant women, nursing mothers, and their children.

“We have taken it upon ourselves to figure out areas the club can assist the government in making healthcare accessible to pregnant women, nursing mothers, and the children.”

In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Hospital Management Board, Mr Akin Fagbemi, lauded the Rotary Club of Iyaganku-Ibadan for its kindness, just as he expressed optimism that the gesture would have a positive effect on the lives of pregnant and nursing mothers.

He emphasised that health remains one of the cardinal programmes of the administration of Oyo State governor, Mr Seyi Makinde.

Fagbemi reassured the Rotary Club of Iyaganku-Ibadan that the management and the staff of his board have the manpower, machinery, and people to maintain and sustain whatever is placed in their custody.

He encouraged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture of the Rotary Club of Iyaganku-Ibadan and also support health facilities across the state in order to complement the efforts of the present administration.

Director of Community Service, Iyaniwura Akinlua, urged the hospital to make good use of the items donated so as to encourage them to do more in the future.
