RIVERS State yesterday began a three-day fasting and prayer for peaceful general elections in the state.
The spiritual exercise holding on the instance of the state government saw men of God and leaders of state in attendance on Wednesday to seek the face of God for peace to prevail across the state.
With the theme: “Arise Oh God” the leaders prayed God to defeat the evil machinations of forces trying to destabilise the state during the forthcoming elections.
The leaders and cleric prayed against political violence, cultism, kidnapping, communal conflicts, militancy and other social vices.
Preaching at the programme, Founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie said prayers and fasting will advance healing in the state.
He said despite the predictions, there will be no violence and bloodshed in Rivers State adding that the three-day programme will check the excesses of negative spiritual forces.
While praying for the good of the state, he said anyone who does not love Rivers State will not prosper in it.
In his remarks, Rivers State Governor said that the programme was organised strictly for the peace of the state.
He said that the programme has no political coloration, noting that Rivers people will benefit from the programme.
The governor urged Rivers people to always pray for the state as it is in the interest of the state for peace to reign.
