Rivers APC crisis: Amaechi faction demands Abe’s expulsion

There is no end in sight to the leadership tussle rocking the All Progressives Congress, Rivers State chapter.

Certain loyalists of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi have petitioned the national secretariat of the party, asking for the expulsion of Senator Magnus Abe.

The APC Rivers State chapter has been polarised into Senator Abe and Honourable Amaechi factions. A move for a fresh congress by the national secretariat of the party to put in place a substantive ward, local and state executive was recently aborted by a court injunction following a suit believed to have been instigated by Senator Abe faction.

A Rivers State High Court had issued an ex-parte order, restraining the party from conducting ward, local government area and state congresses in Rivers State earlier scheduled for September 17 2019, September 21, 2019, and September 28, 2019, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The Abe faction of the party had rejected the composition of a five man caretaker committee, led by Mr Isaac Ogbobula claiming that its members were Amaechi’s cronies.

In an undated petition signed by Emmanuel Orgwu, coordinator, National Youth Leadership Congress entitled, “Call for Intervention,” the group alleged that Senator Abe was working for the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to run the APC aground in Rivers state.

They further argued that only the expulsion of Senator Abe would ensure sanity in the Rivers State chapter of the party.

The petition reads in part: “Today. Senator Magnus Abe is like a severely aching tooth with the APC and we are left with one of two alternatives: either we choose to spend hard-earned money for treatments and bear the inconvenience of severe pains at intervals or bear the pain of pulling out the tooth once and for all and get a permanent reprieve. There is always a cost for doing nothing. We are resolved to protect our heritage of making APC be in the conscience of Nigerians except there is internal connivance.

“We have come to champion what Rivers people are craving for because it will be insincere not to stand up for those that believe in you. Our value will be in the problems we solve. So, between the two alternatives, we call for the latter, that Senator Abe be expelled from our beloved APC to give the party a permanent relief as we work towards an assured success. Whatever affects the eyes cause a runny nose.”
