Rescue us from land grabbers, Idi-Ahun residents beg Ajimobi

Published by

The people of Aro, Ayo, Ajagusi and Amuletigbo villages in Idi-Ahun, Iddo Local Government Area of Oyo State, have appealed to the state government, the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant authorities to rescue them and put a stop to the activities of land grabbers who had been troubling them since 2005.

Leader of Aro Vilage, Chief Moshood Salawu-Aro, who spoke on behalf of the communities made the appeal at the weekend in Ibadan, while speaking to the Nigerian Tribune.

According to him, the problem started in 2006 when land grabbers with the assistance of some people suspected to be security agents, invaded the communities based on the judgment they got on October 20, 2005 at the state high court.

He noted that his people were neither parties nor privies to the judgment as it only pertained to the Majemgbasan family land at Idi-Ahun, via Oloyin village on Omi Adio Road, Ibadan.

He said: “Our land covers 279.912 acres and we have been there from time immemorial. We are appealing to the Oyo State government under our able leader, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris and other security agents to rescue us from the land grabbers.

“We, as law-abiding citizens instituted a case with suit No: M/229/2016 for the enforcement of our fundamental human rights, but it is unfortunate that as the case is still pending in court, the land grabbers came on January 4, 2017 to the villages and sealed off our houses.

“We are appealing to our governor, who is a peace-loving person, to use all the power at his disposal to check the land grabbers who have turned themselves to nuisance in the community.”
