Reps angry as service chiefs shun security meeting

The leadership of House of Representatives on Friday expressed disgust over the refusal of some of the Service Chiefs to honor the crucial meeting initiated to address the lingering security challenges in major parts of the country.

 

Worried by the development, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who presided over the meeting, promised to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari with the view to address some of the nagging issues and the need to ensure synergy between the Executive and Legislature.

The Speaker who frowned at the decision of the Service Chief who sent the Director, Account Department to the meeting, however, commended the Inspector General of Police, Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service and Director General of State Security Service for attending the meeting.
In his brief remarks, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Idris Wase, who frowned at the flagrant disregard for the Parliament, disclosed that he came across one of the Service Chiefs who was foibg to the State House, on his way to the National Assembly.
To this end, Hon. Gbajabiamila adjourned the meeting to Monday, by 10:00 am.
