Red Cross donates food, cash to injured members’ families

The Red Cross Society of Nigeria has reached out with 50,000 naira each to families of all its members affected by the tragedy in Rann Kala Balge recently.

Each family of the injured members  also received a reasonable amount of cash and foodstuffs that would last them for a very long time.

For the four married ones, the support was given to their wives while the two single men got their support transferred to their parents who are their next of kins.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune during the week, the Secretary of the society in Borno, Zannah Barma stated that they were still looking inward to ensure that they continued to support their fallen colleagues in the service of humanity.

Zannah said that three interventions had come from families within the red Cross such as ICRC, red Cross International and the federation of Red Cross and Crescent on three different occasions.

According to him, the society would be looking forward to receiving more assistance from governmental and non-governmental organisations to assist both volunteers and internally displayed persons.

He said that all the injured Red Cross volunteers from the Kala balge tragedy had been released to go home except three still recuperating in the hospital.

“As of Tuesday evening only three were left in the emergency ward of the state specialist hospital occupied by the Red Cross Society.”

Zannah Barma told the Nigerian Tribune exclusively that even the three left in the ward were in good condition.

He said that the Red Cross Society would not be deterred by the set back  brought by  the tragedy which is why they would surely increase the number that had been depleted from the bomb misfire.

“Forty volunteers were sent to Kala balge but only twenty were affected by the incident. This, however, will not deter us as we are planning more out reach interventions to provide more humanitarian services.”

The Red Cross Society has interventions in many towns and villages where there are no services to help the people.

Such council areas include Damboa, Gamboru Gala, Dikwa, Mongonu, kukawa, Mobarr where they are the sole providers of services.
