The High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital, has sentenced a middle-aged tricycle rider, Blessing Kingsley, to life imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl and infected her with Hepatitis B.
Kingsley who was dragged before the court for committing the offence on July 12, 2018, in Ondo town in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state while he offered to convey the victim to her residence, but lured the teenager to his house.
The accused was said to have driven the girl to his house where he forcefully raped her before dropping the girl in her home.
The girl reported the incident to her parent while the accused was arrested after which a test was conducted on the victim where it was detected that the teenager has been infected with Hepatitis B.
Kingsley who testified for himself at the Court during the trial denied raping the girl while four witnesses testified against him.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Bode Adegbehingbe, in his judgement delivered on Monday said the prosecution had proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Justice Adegbehingbe said the weight of evidence proved without a doubt that Kingsley was guilty of the one-count charge of rape and sentenced the accused to life imprisonment.
