The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissociated the leadership of the party from what it described as purported inauguration of the party in Ogun State by certain unknown persons.
The party, in a disclaimer jointly signed by the chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus and the national secretary, Senator Umar Tsauri said the purported inauguration of the officers of the party in Ogun State was unconatitutional, null and void.
The PDP said it has not conducted congresses in the state for election of party officials at all levels in compliance with interim order by the court of Justice Inyang Ekwo on March 4, directing the maintenance of the status quo until the hearing of the motion on notice still pending before the court.
“Therefore, the inauguration of certain unknown persons as state officers of the PDP in Ogun State on Friday which made made headlines in the social media was unknown to the PDP and should be disregarded by all its members and Nigerians at large.
The party also stated that “It is the sole responsibility of NEC/NWC of the party to conduct congresses for elections of party leaders at all levels of the party and no state organ or individual has such power except such power as may be expressly donated by the NEC/NWC and sane has not been exercised with regards to Ogun State,” the party said.
