The Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria has called on the abductors of Greenfield University not to execute the remaining 17 students of the school who are under their custody.
Recall, the leader of the abductors had in an interview with VOA Hausa Service, on Monday, threatened to kill all the students if a ransom of N100million and 10 motorcycles were not offered to them today (Tuesday).
In an interview with newsmen, on Tuesday, the National President, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, noted that “there is need to begged all the bandits in view of the situation the students find themselves in since the day they were kidnapped.
“Right now the parents and relatives of the abducted students are living in fear in view of the threat, saying, some of the parents I spoke with could not even eat since yesterday when the news of their possible execution went viral.”
He said it was for this reason our association decided to plea with the abductors of the students to please and please spare the lives of these innocent students.
“We were shocked and not happy with that statement on the radio that all our remaining Greenfield students would be killed by the bandits if 100 million naira and 10 motorcycles were not given to them today.
“We are simply begging them not to kill any other student in view of the fact that they are innocent.
“The deadline is really worrisome and we as parents, we are all concerned and worried over the lives of our students and teachers of the Greenfield university.”
According to him, there is also a need for the abductors to extend the date-line they gave, in order to enable the parents to meet up with their demands.
Danjuma said it is really unfortunate that bandits have now come up with new ways of extorting money from school students through abducting a large number of students in exchange for millions.
He said, “there is a need for government to provide adequate security in order to protect all Nigerian schools, so as to avert further attacks on schools.
“Since the kidnapped of, Chibok girls, to Dapchi, Zamfara, Niger, and Kaduna, Many teachers and students are in a panic mood, hence the need for the government to quickly bring an end to the kidnapping of school students and teachers.”
While calling on communities to always support in protecting schools including teachers and students, he equally urged volunteer vigilantes, civilian JTF, Civil Defence and Peace corps to be always supportive in terms of protecting the schools’ environment.
