Police rescue kidnapped Director of Benue Treasury after gun battles

Police in Benue State have rescued a senior civil servant, Mr Geoffrey Agada  from the captivity of kidnappers.

Mr Agada is  the Director of Treasury  in the State  Ministry of Finance Makurdi and was kidnapped from his residence by unknown  gunmen four days ago.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mukkadas Garba who handed over the kidnap victim to the State governor, Samuel Ortom yesterday said that Agada was rescued by officers and men of Operation Zenda  in an undisclosed area in the state.

The CP said that  the kidnappers had demanded  N50 million ransom  but said that  police were able to play  with them and worked on credible intelligence until Agada was rescued alive and unhurt with no ransom paid.

According to him: ”We have been working round the clock to see how we can rescue Agada unhurt and alive ever since he was abducted and by the grace of God, we have been able to have encounter with the kidnappers and Mr Agada has been rescued alive without any ransom paid. We have commenced full scale investigation to arrest all those behind the act.

“We have been arresting and arraigning these hoodlums and a lot of them have been convicted and we are working round the clock to make sure these people are cleared from the society”.  Mukaddas said.

Governor Ortom  commended the Nigerian police for their quick intervention in making sure that Agada was rescued alive and with no ransom paid on his head.

He said it is sacrilegious for someone to kidnap his fellow human and demand for N50 million ransom and commended the State Police Commissioner for his uncommon commitments in ensuring peace and security is achieved in State.

Ortom noted that  if all Commissioners of Police  in the country could work like this, state governments and other Nigerians would not be asking for state police but be demanding for what to do to support them to accomplish the desired security in their various states.

Ortom warned that there is no room for criminality in the state,assuring that anyone with criminal intent in the state will be apprehended and called on all those involved in criminal acts such as  robbers,cultists kidnappers among others to repent, surrender and become good citizens of the state as his government is determined to go after criminal elements to fish them out with the help of the security agents.
