Two highway robbers were killed by the men of the Ogun State Police Command, on Thursday morning, on the Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway, at Ogbere area of the state.

The suspected armed robbers were said to have robbed a Eastern bound luxury bus with registraton number LAGOS AAA 649 XN and dispossessed all the passengers of their valuables which include cash, phones, laptop, wristwatches among others.

One of the victims, Donatus Adie, told Metro that the incident happened at about 1.08 a.m at J4 junction, saying that the operation lasted for more than two hours.

He explained that the robbers who were armed to the teeth blocked the ill-fated vehicle with an 18-seater passenger bus, adding that one of the robbers drove the vehicle into a thick bush.

Adie said the Police got to the scene on time following a tip off by passers-by and pursued the robbers inside the bush.

Items recovered from the armed robbers include three pump action rifles, two locally made pistols and machete.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ogbere, CSP Agunbiade Adeyinka, led his men to the scene following information about the robbery incident.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent Police, said the Police went after the hoodlums and killed two while other members of the gang fled with gunshot wound.

He therefore urged hospitals in the area to report any patient with gunshot wound to report such to the Police.

Oyeyemi said a sum of N166,000 recovered from the armed robbers would be shared among the victims, while their valuables would also be returned to them.
