Determined to rid the state of crime and criminals, the Bayelsa Police Command on Friday announced the killing of two young men who attacked a supermarket around Opolo suburb in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.
It would be recalled that last week while parading suspects, the State Police Commissioner, Asuquo Amba had warned that the police would not treat robbers with kid gloves and warned perpetrators to relocate from the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat and made available to journalists in Yenagoa.
He said. “at about 1530hrs, three young men armed with locally made pistols, attacked Ankos Supermarket at Opolo, Yenagoa, and carted away the sum of one hundred and five thousand naira (N105,000) at gunpoint.
“When neighbours put a call across to the police, the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) swiftly responded to the distress and the armed robbers engaged the policemen in a gun duel, but the superior fire power of the force contained them.
Consequently, one of the suspects escaped, while the other suspects sustained gunshot injuries, they were arrested and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, for treatment where they were confirmed dead. The corpses were deposited for autopsy,” he said.
The statement reads “two locally made revolver pistols, with three live .9mm ammunition, one female purse containing ten thousand five hundred naira and an ear ring, were recovered from the deceased suspects.
He, however, noted that manhunt has been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigation is ongoing.
