Police arrest four suspected kidnappers in Niger

The long arm of the law has caught up with four suspected kidnappers in Niger State following their arrest and the recovery of two locally made pistols and a Dane gun found in their possession.

In a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, made available to journalists on Monday in Minna, it was stated that, on 12 April 2025, police operatives attached to Rijau Division arrested four suspects, namely Shehu Mohammed (35 years) of T/Magajiya, Mamman Sani of K/Shenjiri, Daudu Mohammed (37 years) of Udu, and Jibrin Ahmodu of Genu, in Rijau Local Government Area.

The suspects were reportedly arrested with two locally made pistols and one Dane gun.

SP Wasiu Abiodun explained that a preliminary investigation revealed the suspects had kidnapped a female victim from Angwan-Gwanda village in Rijau Local Government Area last month, but the victim managed to escape from captivity.

The statement added that the victim was able to identify one of the suspected kidnappers, who was traced and arrested, leading to the apprehension of the other suspects.

Meanwhile, the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime. The Police spokesperson confirmed that they remain under investigation.

He, however, assured the public that they will be charged to court for prosecution once investigations are concluded.
