Police arrest 3 as decomposed body of kidnapped lecturer found

THE decomposed body of a lecturer of the Federal University of Agriculture, Markudi, Benue State, Christiana Agbulu, kidnapped about six weeks ago have been found along Lokoja-Abuja road.

The body was said to have been discovered in a shallow grave where she was buried after being allegedly gang raped by the suspected abductors.

The Kogi State command of the Nigeria Police has however arrested three people in connection with the crime.

Agbulu, a lecturer 1 in the department of biological sciences in the university was kidnapped in Lokoja, Kogi State on November 26, 2016.

After her abduction, the kidnappers were said to have demanded for N150, 000 for her to be released.

However N100, 000 was sent to her bank account following which the kidnappers used her Automated Teller Machine (ATM) to withdraw the money and since then stopped communicating with her family members and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Tribune Online gathered that the men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

It was further learnt from ‘A’ division Police Station, Lokoja that the leader of the gang was identified and arrested through the ATM of one of the commercial bank in Lokoja where he had gone to withdraw the N100,000.

According to the source, the arrest of the gang leader led to the arrest of the remaining two members who later gave useful information to the Police on how they kidnapped her, raped her to death and then buried her in a shallow grave along Lokoja-Abuja road.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kogi State Police Command, Mr William Ayah, confirmed that at least three person have been arrested  in connection with the kidnapping and killing of the lady.

The police image maker also said Agbulu’s mobile phone was recovered from the suspects.

Anya noted that the command would intensify efforts at making the state crime free, urging the people to offer useful information to help the command.
