FOLLOWING the recent Plateau killings, a group known as Concerned Nigerian Students has written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari to express their sadness over the incident which has left them heartbroken.
The Concerned Nigerian Students lamented the mass killing, which has left them in worry about the safety of Nigerians in affected areas.
The letter, signed by Taiwo Adesoba (USA), Prince Gideon Olanrewaju (UK) and Taiwo Agidigbi (South Korea) read:
“It is with a deep sense of sadness that we write to you regarding the ongoing mass killings in Nigeria, the most recent being the incident that happened in Plateau State on Sunday 24th June 2018.
“Your Excellency, as concerned Nigerian students, we see it as our responsibility to lend our voices to the need to urgently step up security in Nigeria, especially in the volatile regions and to advocate that all hands be put on deck to address the underlying issues of insecurity in our dear country.

“Dear Mr President Sir, although we live abroad, our sense of national identity remains valid with our parents, siblings, friends, and loved ones in Nigeria who are on the brink of danger with the incessant attacks and brutalized killings being perpetrated against innocent citizens. This development has left us not only sad but also heartbroken as insecurity has become the order of the day in Nigeria.”
It further reads that “We are scared whenever we call home, and our families don’t pick up the phone, [even when nothing is wrong] because it appears to us that no one is safe anymore in Nigeria.”
They also urged President Buhari to grant justice to the victims of the killings, adding that failure to do so may embolden the vicious acts of the perpetrators, which could pose a threat to national security.
