Plateau ADC alleges plot to substitute its gubernatorial candidate

Published by

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State has alleged a scheme to substitute the name of its gubernatorial candidate, Brigadier John Sura (rtd), stating that such action would be strongly opposed.

In an interview on Sunday in Jos, Plateau State, the party’s state chairman, Honourable Dung Dawan Pam, stated that some influential groups are working covertly to substitute the name of elected candidate in order to forward their preferred candidate.

According to him, the party chairmen in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state are strongly behind General Sura’s candidacy, having secured the mandate of the party members through democratic procedures.

He said, “We are calling on the national working committee to warn those who want to interfere with the uploading of General Sura’s name from the INEC portal to desist from such. We are not just crying wolf where there’s none.

“Sometimes back, the National Secretariat told me that there is another list and a different gubernatorial candidate, though we put a stop to it at that time but later discovered that some people who call themselves critical stakeholders of the party from Plateau State are making fresh attempts again.

“We have confronted them, the excuse they gave was that General Sura (rtd) is not loyal but we are insisting that the choice of the people must prevail. At the moment, we are on our way to Abuja over the issue.”

“Tomorrow (Monday), we are meeting with the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and National Chairman Senator David Mark on the issue because tomorrow is the closing date of uploading. Though it will be very difficult to substitute his name now but we don’t want to take chances, that is why we are taking this step. And more so, the   National Secretariat will not want to play with the people of Plateau because that would amount to the end of ADC on the Plateau,” he said.
