A philanthropist, Mr Samuel Adeyemi has launched an initiative called ‘Food Bank’ to cater for the indigent residents and mitigate the effect of the economy on the people of Ekiti state.
Adeyemi at the launch of the initiative in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital gave beneficiaries who were drawn from all the wards in Ado Ekiti clothing materials, food and money as empowerment.
He called on influential persons in the society to support the government’s work at fighting poverty in the country, saying efforts must be geared at improving the standard of living of the people.
Adeyemi said the COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a fatal blow to the economy of Ekiti and that individuals must come together in reaching out to people in the areas of food, clothing, shelter and basic needs of life.
He also announced that plans are underway through his friends and associates to give grants to residents of the state in order to aid their businesses.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke extolled the virtues of Adeyemi for giving back to society, saying ” he has been a shining light to the downtrodden masses in this trying times.”
They also challenged other Ekiti indigenes both home and in the diaspora to emulate his gesture and reach out to the vulnerable residents in their respective communities.
