Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on security matters given the worsening situation in the country.
Rising from a meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDPGF) in Abuja on Wednesday night, the governors affirmed that the state of insecurity in the country will affect food security.
They have also elected a new chairman to lead the forum in the person of Governor Henry Dickson is Bayelsa state.

Until now, the position was held by his Gombe counterpart, Ibrahim Dankwambo who ends his two-year tenure as a state governor May 29.
A communique read by Dankwambo said: “The PDPGF is very concerned about the state of insecurity and how it affects food security as farmers are scared to go to their farms for fear of being killed or kidnapped and urges the President to declare a state of emergency on security matters.
“Following a consensus agreement, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has been elected Chairman of the PDPGF to succeed Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo whose tenure expires by the end of the month.”
