The Bishop of Remo Diocese, Most Reverend Olusina Fape, on Thursday declared that God has blessed the Diocese of Remo (Anglican Communion) with committed and dedicated sons and daughters who have been offering their services cheerfully to add value to the work of the kingdom of God, adding that the Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and Chief Mrs H.I.D Awolowo were vessels of honour used by God to bless the Diocese of Remo.
Bishop Fape who made this known during the dedication and official hand over of Remo Anglican House at Dideolu Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos, stated that the commissioning and dedication of the project is proof that “unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain (Psalms 127:1).”
According to him, it is a laudable feat that the Remo Diocese can boast of a house in Lagos, adding that, “today, we gather here as proud members of the Anglican Diocese of Remo to celebrate God’s faithfulness, on this day, which is the symbolic handing over of the Remo Anglican House. Who would have thought that one day; the Diocese of Remo will be a proud owner of the property of this magnificent and imposing structure in Lagos! But then, that is why He is God.”
He expressed appreciation to members of the Diocesan Development Committee under the dynamic leadership of Olotu Omoba Michael Oyedele for the supervisory roles throughout the construction period and their many visits to the site to monitor the progress of the ongoing works, adding that they deserve great commendation.
“We appreciate the Secretary, the Venerable Tolu Akinwande for his great commitment. Today, our immense gratitude goes to our beloved father, the Barnabas of our time, Prince Dr B.A. Onafowokan, the facilitator of this project. For many years after we received the gift of this land, we had discussed at various times how to develop the land without any success until we approached Papa in 2017. Having intimated Papa of our problem and wish, he promised to do something, and the result was the arrival of BCI Global Properties Limited, the developers which constructed this imposing structure we are here to commission and dedicate today.
“Papa, we are grateful to you for your labours of love over the Diocese of Remo. God has made you a strategic helper to bless our ministry in Remo, right from the beginning of our Episcopacy in 2003. It is our prayer that God will continue to bless you with sound and robust health in your old age. Thank you for timely interventions at different stages in the course of executing this project. We are eternally grateful to God for your life,” he stated.
Speaking about the land, he recalled the labours of heroes past, and in particular, singled out the Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose benevolence and generosity laid the foundation of the house through his gift to the Diocese of Remo of the land on which the building stands today.
Bishop Fape added that “the document of the land was handed over to us as Bishop during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Diocese in March 2004 by our late Diocesan Mother, Chief Mrs H.I.D Awolowo. Today, we celebrate Papa and Mama Awolowo for being vessels of honour used by God to bless the Diocese of Remo. Eternal rest, grant them O Lord; and may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
“For the Project to be successfully completed as we have it today, it takes the involvement of a consortium of tested professionals, who have willingly worked alongside the Diocese of Remo. In this regard, we want to appreciate the Interstate Architects under the Chairmanship of Otunba Adeleke Adesina, our Structural Engineer, Engr Dr. Kehinde Osifala, our Quantity Surveyor, Mr Olaseni Orenuga, our Treasurer, Mr Samuel Bajimi, Papa Mota Odumusi, and others. May the good Lord reward your labours of love,” the Bishop stated.
He further expressed appreciation to BCI Global Properties Limited, the developer of the building, describing them as a worthy partner who showed a touch of professionalism in every aspect of the project construction as well as the Managing Director, Engr Ibraheem Horun, Arc Rahman, and other professionals in the company as well as the clergy and lay members of the Diocese of Remo for their support and encouragement.
