Globeleq Power Solutions Nigeria Limited, facilitated by Orion Edutech Africa, has deemed fit to donate educational materials to over one hundred students drawn from 10 public secondary schools in some designated communities in Ibadan.
The choice of the schools was requested by the company, as pilot community schools for the project, Tribune Online learnt.
Held on Tuesday at Eyinni High School, Challenge, Ibadan, the Director, Head Legal, Compliance, who represented the benefactor company at the official presentation of the educational materials to the students, Lady Cheta Nwabuike declared that the donation was one of the social-economic development projects for the company in Nigeria.
According to her, the essence of the project was to give back to the society, Nigeria in support of the education reform process ongoing in the federation.
She said: “For this project, the company supplied educational materials to the selected 100 students drawn from 10 public secondary schools in the state. What we gave them included Text Books, Note Books, School bags. Other materials were school uniforms, school sandals, Mathematical sets and face masks.
“The materials were meant to boost learning, promote excellence and also to encourage indigent students in the school. Moreover, the progressive education development in Oyo State informed the decision of Globeleq Power Solutions to lend its helping hands to sustain governor Seyi Makinde ‘s education vision for the state. The vision of Globeleq Power Solutions has always been to partner with communities in the areas of health, education, economic empowerment and provisional development”.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director, Educational Advancement Centre, Pastor Muyiwa Bamgbose described the educational supportive activities of Globeleq Power Solutions in Nigeria as tremendous.
According to him, the company, though not based in Nigeria, is establishing enduring and worthwhile legacies for the recipients, the students, to emulate in the nearest future.
Pastor Bamgbose noted that if the Nigerian government at all levels would give the company all the necessary supports to exploit its potential, the development would go a long way to boost education advancement even in the health sector.
Speaking in the same vein on the occasion, Chairman, Oyo State Parent Teacher Association, Mr Isaac Adebayo, expressed satisfaction with the good gesture of the company towards the development of their children in the state.
According to him, the company’s donations towards our children in Oyo State has become good precedence for other allied companies in the country to build their social responsibilities for the progress of education in Nigeria, Oyo State in particular.
Mrs Abosede Adeyemo, the Local Inspector of Education, Ibadan South East, also commended the benefactor company for the gifts and for its social responsibility support toward education development in the state.
She explained that 50 per cent of the students who benefited from the educational materials performed brilliantly during their promotional examination into JSS2 for the 2021/22 academic session in their respected schools, while the other 50 per cent shared from the educational materials on destitute grounds to encourage them financially. She wished the recipients lifelong successful education pursuits, as she urged them to put to use those educational materials judiciously.
