OYO State government has inaugurated a technical steering committee to ensure the sustainability of the planned programmes for orphans and vulnerable children in the state.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community Development, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Atinuke Ogunkoya, said this during the inauguration of the committee.

The commissioner said the state government accorded priority to issues relating to orphans and vulnerable children and was always ready to consider ways on how they could be supported.

She said: “The capacity of the state government via the Ministry of Women Affairs is to lead the team to ensure the total commitment of various stakeholders which requires technical input of technocrats from various sectors.”

Earlier, the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mrs Foluso Sali, commended stakeholders present at the event and enjoined them to support government by reporting any child lacking alternative family care such as children with disabilities, among others.

Also on the occasion, the Director of Child Welfare in the ministry, Mrs C. A. Abioye, enumerated the roles and responsibilities of the technical committee.
