Residents of Owo community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State have commended the state deputy governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, for awarding scholarships to 100 newly admitted students of Government Technical College, Owo.

The scholarship, which covers full tuition and daily feeding allowances for the entire three-year duration of the students’ training, was described by stakeholders as a landmark intervention that will enhance access to technical education and skills acquisition in the community.

Speaking on behalf of the people, Alhaji Afeez Iwalewa lauded the deputy governor for what he described as an unprecedented gesture in the history of the state.

He noted that Adelami has consistently demonstrated commitment to the development of Owo through people-oriented initiatives.

Iwalewa said that the scholarship scheme will ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while motivating youths to embrace technical and vocational education as a viable pathway to self-reliance and economic empowerment.

The scholarship was announced during the 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony of the institution.

The principal of the college, Mr Tayo Ijabiken, expressed appreciation to the deputy governor, describing the gesture as a major boost to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the state.

He noted that the intervention will not only provide financial relief to families but also inspire confidence, hope and renewed determination among the beneficiaries to excel in their chosen trades.

The principal also commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his sustained commitment to education, particularly in promoting skills acquisition among youths and women across the state.

Oluyi said the Aiyedatiwa administration’s commitment to technical education is anchored on its OUR EASE Agenda, which prioritises opportunity creation, economic expansion, social inclusion and security.

He urged well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations to emulate the deputy governor by investing in youth empowerment and skills development.

In his remarks, delivered by a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Kola Olawoye, said the scholarship scheme was his contribution to supporting the vision of Governor Aiyedatiwa to revitalise technical education in the state.

The deputy governor advised the beneficiary students to take their studies seriously, stressing that technical education remains a critical driver of job creation, self-reliance and sustainable economic growth.
