Overhauling the security agencies

No nation can develop without an effective, efficient and vibrant security agencies, which we all know is the engine room of any responsible government across the world.

Nigeria is facing security challenges and it has been difficult for all our security chiefs to bring some law breakers to book.

The typical example is about the inability of the police to expose the killers of Mrs Funke Olakunrin or unmask those that kidnapped an Ibadan-based lawyer, Musibau Adetunmbi. The international community is watching our security chiefs. I wonder how criminals will commit a crime and go scot-free.

Recently, the failing kidnapping of a Federal High Court judge in Edo state was widely reported; this is unfair to the nation. I want to plead with Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, to fish out those who kidnapped the judge without immediate effect.

I give the IGP 14 days ultimatum to find lasting solution to the kidnapping problem in Nigeria,  which I will institute a legal action against him.

I want to tell President Muhammadu Buhari that at this critical stage, it is time is to set up a committee that will be saddled with the responsibility of general overhauling of all the security agencies in Nigeria because no one is safe in this country. Going by the current security challenges, it is high time the president changes the leaders of all security agencies in Nigeria or issues them a mandate that protecting the lives and properties of the people is important if they want to keep their jobs. The president has the constitutional power to sack any security chief who fails to perform his duties effectively. Enough is enough; we can’t keep silent and watch criminals take over our country.

I also want President Buhari to look into the salary structure of our security agencies across the rank and file. There is need to make them happy before sending them to battle.
