Police authorities in Kebbi State have denied the report trending on social media that the vehicle used by bandits to abducts 50 Students of Federal Government College ( FGC), Birnin-Yauri in Kebbi State belong to them.
Reacting to the report through a press statement signed by the State Police spokesman, Nafiu Abubakar DSP, and made available to Tribune Online on Saturday, it explained that the Hilux vehicle used with registration number KBSJ 29 belong to a High Court Judge in the state.
The police spokesman explained further that the bandits hijacked the vehicle from the driver at a gunpoint and drove it to the school premises to commit the crime and not the Police vehicle as was erroneously reported by online media.
“The Command wishes to put the record straight that the number of students in captivity is still not certain as the compilation of names is still ongoing by the school authority, the 50 number of Students is misleading, full rescue operations of the children by troops is earnestly going on.”
He, therefore, assured that the Command will brief the people as the situation unfolds. He also warned publishers of unconfirmed reports to desist from such practices in the interest of the general public.
