A governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Chief Bimbo Ashiru, has urged all concerned in Osun State, to allow the wishes of the people of the State to prevail by electing the governor of their choice.
Ashiru, the immediate past Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, in Ogun State, said this while fielding questions from reporters shortly after his consultative meeting with leaders and members of APC in Ogun Central Senatorial District, on Sunday.
He noted that the people of the state, during the last Saturday governorship election, through their votes determined their leader in an election which was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He said, “The most important thing is that the people should be allowed to determine who is going to rule them. You see, we are not developing country anymore, we are now becoming developed. It has got to a level whereby individuals will determine who is going to lead them; it’s not going to be by sentiments anymore.
“People would determine who they want as their leader. Well, the Osun poll was inconclusive. They are going to have a rerun. But it clearly shows that people determine who wants to rule them and we should allow the people to determine who want to rule them. We should be very careful and that’s exactly what is happening now.”

He commended the people for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves before, during and after the election.
Ashiru while speaking on the newest position of his party in the state to conduct indirect primaries in picking candidates for various elective posts ahead of the 2019 general elections, said the party should reconsider its position by using direct method for primaries.
He wondered why the party is running away from direct primaries in electing candidates, submitting that the National body of the party also supported direct primaries where consensus fails.
“I remember that we adopted consensus and where there are more than one candidate, we go for direct primaries. This is democracy in play but the point is that if Mr President can subject himself to direct primaries, and the same process, I don’t see the reason why others cannot do that.
“If Mr President can subject himself by leading by example with direct primaries, then I don’t see the reason why we cannot conduct primary because it is the same parameter that is going to be used. If we use the same parameter and it is the same process that brought in most of the executives because of the Congress,” he added.
