The troops of Sector 7 Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) have arrested the suspected killers of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, who was murdered in Tachira village in Kaura Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State recently.
Reverend Father Okechukwu, in charge of Saint Mary Catholic Church, Tachira, in Kaura LGA of Kaduna State, was kidnapped in early March this year at his residence at about 9:15 pm and whisked away to an unknown destination.
However, he was confirmed killed by his abductors a few hours later on Ash Wednesday morning, causing apprehension and anxiety in the local government.
The OPSH, in a statement signed by its Media Information Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, confirmed that the suspects were arrested on 25 March 2025 following a raid on the prime suspect’s hideout located at a Ruga settlement in Warsa-Piti village in Lere LGA of Kaduna State.
The statement further revealed that during preliminary investigations, the prime suspect, Pate Yau, a 33-year-old, confessed to having been contracted by one Douglas Henry, who lived in the same house as the slain priest, to kidnap him.
“Troops, in a follow-up operation, arrested Douglas Henry at Agwan Sariki Tachira in Kaura LGA of the state. The arrested suspects are in custody undergoing further interrogation,” it said.
