Operations Safe Haven not aiding insecurity in Plateau North ― Media Officer

Published by

The Operations Safe Haven (OPSH) in charge of security in Plateau State has debunked a statement that the OPSH is aiding insecurity in the troubled Bassa local government area and other places within Plateau North.

Recall that there was a protest by the youth against the persistent killings in parts of the state at the entrance of Government House on Wednesday. The protesters accused the OPSH of aiding the unfortunate incidents in the area and further called for the removal of the Commandant, 3rd Armoured Division who also doubled as Commander Operations Safe Haven, Major General Ibrahim Ali.

Reacting to the allegations, the OPSH in a statement signed by its Media Officer, Major Ishaku Takwa, said claims were totally false and should be disregarded by well-meaning Nigerians.

“This latest attacks on the image of the Operation is a calculated attempt to dampen the morale of our troops in the professional performance of their duties. Operation SAFE HAVEN has made concerted efforts in stemming the tide of communal clashes, reprisal attacks and other forms of criminalities on the Plateau.

“The troops of Operation SAFE HEAVEN under the Command of Maj Gen Ibrahim Ali, (a thorough bred professional, a detribalized Nigerian and a peace loving military officer) are well motivated, committed and ready to make greater sacrifices for the total restoration of peace and security on the Plateau and beyond,” the statement said.

The statement pointed out that the leadership of Operation SAFE HAVEN is concerned with stabilizing the security situation in communities that experienced attacks recently in Bassa Local Government area of Plateau State as well as Zangon Kataf and Jema’a Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

It added that the rapid response and intervention of its troops during these attacks curtailed the attackers who could have continued their barbaric acts unchallenged added that it was unfortunate that lives were lost during the attacks.

The OPSH further declared that from January 2022 to date alone, the command has lost an officer and three soldiers to banditry attacks and criminalities, adding that it was worrisome to note that the group claims that Operation SAFE HAVEN was abetting criminal attacks on communities and should be held responsible for lives lost.

“Our record also indicates that, since August 2021, there were no cases of attacks on communities in Jos North and South, Barikin Ladi, Riyom and Bokkos Local Government Areas. The mischief makers are only trying to draw us back after numerous achievements recorded in the mentioned areas.”

The Command thetefore assured the Government and the entire citizenry of Plateau State of unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property of every law abiding citizen without fear or favour.

It therefore appealed for the volunteering of credible information from the citizens that could assist in the arrest of criminals and prevent attacks on communities, adding that it will also continue with it’s stakeholders meeting, youth summit, consultations and discussions to halt attacks and reprisal attacks permanently.
