A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ogun State Jimoh Salami, has been reported dead during the Sunday Senatorial and House of Assembly primary elections in Abeokuta.
Although, there were speculations that the deceased might have been hit with charm by suspected thugs who stormed Ward 9, in Sabo area of the state capital, to disrupt the exercise
Tribune Online learnt that Salami died on the spot. However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, denied the allegation that the late Salami, was hit with charm.
The PPRO said that the man slumped while trying to perform his civic responsibility and was reported to have been taken to an undisclosed hospital where the unfortunate incident happened.
But, an eyewitness account told the Tribune Online that the deceased who was supporting a particular House of Assembly aspirant was attacked by the hoodlums also believed to be loyal to another aspirant.
The hoodlums were said to have stormed the venue of the primary to disrupt the election in a bid to manipulate its outcome, which was resisted by Salami.
The eyewitness account said the deceased was hit with a charm on the chest which resulted to death.
