The 88- year-old old Madam Muinat Mosekola Mimiko, mother of former governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has passed on.

The late octogenarian was said to have died in the early hours of Saturday in her Ondo home.

Details of her death remained sketchy as at the time of writing this report.

But a media aide to the former governor, John-Paul Akinduro, confirmed the death of the late mother of Mimiko.

He said in a text that “88yr-old mother of former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, Mama Muinat Mosekola Mimiko fondly called Iye Ruka has gone to rest. We will miss her dearly.”

Meanwhile, the Ondo State government has reacted to the demise of the mother of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s predecessor.

In a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, the governor described the death of mama as a painful loss.

Ojogo stated that “the Government of Ondo State earlier today, received the news of the demise of Mama Muyinat Mimiko, the mother of our dear former Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko.

“With a deep sense of loss, Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, on behalf of the government as well as the good people of Ondo State, shares this moment of loss with his school mate, a friend of decades and immediate predecessor in office. Mr Governor considers Mama’s exit a personal loss.

“Undoubtedly, her exit has created an irreplaceable vacuum in the family and her immediate environment. Nonetheless, our collective sense of fulfilment lies in the comfort of Mama’s hard work, high moral standards, discipline as well as prayers for her children.”

The statement read further that “the government of Ondo State is particularly enthralled by the exploits of one of her sons, Olusegun, the former governor whose shrewd intervention in the critical health sector is now a reference point.

“While appreciating God’s benevolence and Grace of age on Mama, our prayers are with the children and the entire family during this period of grief and personal loss of their beloved Mother.”

Similarly, the lawmaker representing Ondo North Senatorial district and the Deputy Majority Leader at the National Assembly, Senator Ajayi Borrofice has also extended heartfelt condolences to Mimiko and his family over the demise of their matriarch.

Borrofice in a statement issued by his media aide, Kayode Fakuyi said “our thoughts and prayers are with the Mimiko family in this moment of grief. I urge the family to be comforted with the fulfilled life mama lived and the worthy legacies she left behind.

“Furthermore, the Mimiko family should draw inspiration from the assurance of Psalm 34:18 – ‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit’.

He, however, prayed and expressed confidence that God will grant the Mimiko family the fortitude to navigate this trying period.

Also, the lawmaker representing Akure South /North Federal Constituency, Hon. Adedayo Omolafe, has described the glorious home call of Mimiko’s mother as irreplaceable.

While commiserating with the Mimiko and the entire family on the passage of their matriarch, he described the death of the late mother of Mimiko as “indeed a great loss not just to the Mimiko family but the entire sunshine state.

“We can all attest to the fact that mama lived a fulfilled and exemplary of a true and caring mother which is worthy of emulation.

“She will be greatly missed for her motherly role, timely advice, support and consistent prayer for the Mimikos and Ondo State at large. Mama has left an indelible mark and indeed lived for mankind.

“There is no gainsaying that God has blessed Ondo State through the fruits of her womb. I pray that the Almighty God will grant the family a great fortitude to bear this loss.”

Also, member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Akingbaso in a condolence message to Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and family on the death of his mother, said “I extend to you my deep and heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mother. I hope you find some comfort in knowing that she was a great mother to us, and she will never be forgotten.

“Losing someone we love is never easy, but we must be thankful for, the beautiful moments and memories we shared with them. Your mother was a beautiful and kind soul, and she will not be forgotten.

“There is no precious person in the world than a mother. I totally understand what you’ve been through and I’ll stand by your side. Mama was a mother, a partner in development and a soldier of life. I remember how much she used to love us, and take care of us, and be there for all of us.

“She deserves to be remembered exactly like that. My condolence to His Excellency and his family.”
