Ondo community seeks Aiyedatiwa’s intervention over eight-month blackout

The people of Omolayo/Osisi community, Oke Ijebu area of Akure, the Ondo state capital have called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to help in addressing the lingering power outage in the community in almost a year.

The residents who lamented that the situation has affected the social and economic activities in the area, noted that efforts by the community to address the situation have been unsuccessful.

The youth leader in the community, Akintan Akinyemi in a statement said the community members spoke during a visit to the area by officials of the state government led by Special Assistants to the governor on Mobilization, Hon (Mrs) Olabisi Olajide and Hon Bosun Ogunleye.

Speaking, the leaders of Omolayo/Osisi Communities in person of Chief S.I Folorunso and Hon Idowu Otetubi while welcoming the governor’s aides, appealed to them in taking their plights to the governor for solutions to lingering blackout.

They added that the transformer supply electricity to the area had been damaged, calling for a replacement in order to enjoy power supply again.

The statement reads, “they appreciated the visit and used the medium to inform the representatives about the critical challenges which they are facing, in particular electricity that the Government should come to their aid because of the total breakdown of the community transformer which needs replacement.

“The community has been in darkness for almost a year, life has been unbearable for the residents.

“The community is fully supporting the Government in the forthcoming election. They however pleaded to Mr Governor to assist them by granting their request for the supply of 500KVA transformers because the old transformer that has broken down has served the community for a period of 25 years.

“A youth in the community spoke on behalf of the Youth wing simply identified as Lekan Kolawole that if the government can provide solution to the darkness of the community through availability of transformer, he vowed to mobilize all youths in the area to deliver the community for Mr Governor reelection in the forthcoming polls come November 16, 2024.”

Responding to the request of the community, Ogunleye commended the community for their support to the administration of governor Aiyedatiwa, assuring them that the government would soon attend to the issues raised.
