The Federal Government’s declaration of Amotekun, the new security outfit of the Southwest region, as illegal through the Minister of Justice came as a rude shock. That act did not only portray this administration as insensitive to the plights and perils of Nigerian citizens but also as a government that cannot protect the lives and properties of its people and seems to be shameless about it.
It is ludicrous that the same government that does not give a hoot about respect for rule of law and chooses the court orders to obey and the ones to disobey can turn around to lecture the discerning public that security of the nation is the exclusive preserve of the Federal Government, at a time when Nigerians cannot sleep with both eyes closed.
For how long will the Federal Government worship at the altar of deceit and pretend that all is well when in actual fact, the country has been run aground by men of the underworld? Incessant kidnappings, armed robbery, insurgency, banditry, senseless bloodletting and other heinous crimes have ravaged our nation and the president, who was once a general in the army, seems to be at a crossroads. Now many of these criminal elements have been brought to justice? What is the giant step that has been taken recently to restructure the security architecture of the nation? None!
And they declared Amotekun illegal, what an affront on the personality of the people!. The Federal Government is advised not to overstretch the patience of the law-abiding people of the Southwest. If other regions cannot read the handwriting on the wall, then so be it. In fact, this administration will forever be in the debt of the Southwest governors for their ingenuity in coming together to provide adequate security for their people despite political differences. When you see someone doing what you are willing but unable to do, if you cannot appreciate the person, it is best to remain silent.
