Okun development association donates food, amenities to Jigawa orphanage

The Jigawa State chapter of the Okun Development Association has donated food and social amenities to the Jigawa State Orphanage House in Dutse.

Presenting the items at the orphanage, the Chairman of the Okun Development Association in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Ismaila Idowu, said the donation was part of the association’s end-of-year celebration.

The chairman said, “The Okun is a tribal group of Yoruba from Kwara State residing here in Jigawa State. Every year, we organise celebrations where members of the group in the state come together for a get-together to reunite and familiarise ourselves.”

Alhaji Ibrahim Ismaila Idowu explained, “During this celebration, we always strive to do something significant that would touch the lives of people as part of the association’s contribution to our fellow humans.”

According to him, “This time around, we agreed and chose to donate these food items and other materials to the children in this house. We believe this will positively impact their lives and give them a sense of belonging as future leaders.”

The Okun Development Association chairman emphasised, “As God Almighty gave us the privilege, we said let us extend that privilege to the less privileged in this house, especially since Allah has given special care to orphans. Nobody knows tomorrow except Him.”

He added, “We are extending our gratitude to God Almighty for keeping us alive, healthy, and complete. Some of us are orphans in a mature sense, but without challenges like some others have. Let me use this opportunity on behalf of the Okun community members to present these items to these children. May it bring more happiness and joy to them.”

The chairman listed the donated items, which included a bag of rice, digestive biscuits, soft drinks, packets of salt, Maggi cubes, pasta, and detergent soap.

Alhaji Idowu called on other groups, associations, privileged individuals, and philanthropists to emulate the gesture and touch the lives of orphans in orphanage homes and their immediate communities.

Receiving the items, the Director of Child Development in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Halima Yusuf, represented by her deputy, Hajiya Fausat I. Muhammad, thanked the association for the gesture and assured the judicial use of the donated items.
