Ogun, US Consulate, Microsoft Nigeria train 2000 teachers on technology tools

The Ogun State government, the United States Consulate Office, Lagos and Microsoft Nigeria, have trained 2,000 public secondary school teachers in technological tools, aimed at enhancing innovation for effective learning process in schools.

Stating this was the state chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Mrs Olabosipo Ogunsan, at the opening of a 5-day training workshop with the theme: “Teach Right; Developing Educators’ Professional Competencies in Ogun State Public Schools”, held at the Abeokuta Grammar School Hall, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Ogunsan explained that the programme would assist the teachers to inculcate the 21st century teaching-learning skills in the students.

The TSC boss also explained that teachers in the employ of the state government needed professional development programs to adapt to the global education sector and also develop learners in becoming change agents.

She said:”One of the major objectives this programme is to set platform for local, regional and global collaboration between Ogun State public secondary school teachers and their peers through the robust online Educators’ Community by Microsoft.

“The role of educational technology in teaching is of great importance because of the use of information and communication. This is a systemic and organised process of applying modern technology to improve the quality of education and with this, students can, independently, progress in mastering teaching materials.”

The deputy director education, Microsoft Nigeria, Dr Kemi Olurinola, advised the participants to take advantage of the Educators’ Community Forum to interact with their colleagues across the globe.

The state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa, said his administration would continue to provide the platform for teachers to develop themselves of 21st century teaching methodology for better results.
