Ogun Tech Community partners universities to boost AI, data innovation skills

Published by

The Ogun Tech Community has intensified efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements through a series of technology-focused training programmes aimed at equipping students with practical skills in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data analytics.

The community recently partnered with Crescent University and Chrisland University, both in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to organise workshops on “Building AI-Driven Data Solutions with Microsoft Fabric,” attracting students, researchers and aspiring technology professionals.

Speaking during the events, the President of Ogun Tech Community, Adekunle Durosinmi, emphasised the importance of continuous learning and upskilling as technology continues to reshape industries and redefine workforce demands across the world.

According to him, students must embrace lifelong learning to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive digital economy driven by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

The workshops exposed participants to practical applications of Microsoft Fabric, a unified cloud-based analytics platform that integrates data engineering, data science, business intelligence and artificial intelligence capabilities within a single environment.

Facilitators introduced participants to modern data engineering practices, including data pipelines, cloud storage systems, Extract, Transform and Load processes, business intelligence tools and artificial intelligence-driven analytics.

Students were also trained on the concept of OneLake architecture, which provides organisations with a unified data environment, helping to eliminate data silos and improve operational efficiency.

The initiative received support from university administrators, including academic leaders from Crescent University, who commended the collaboration as a strategic effort to improve digital literacy and enhance students’ readiness for the evolving labour market.

According to the organisers, the programme was designed to expose participants to enterprise-level technologies and provide a clearer understanding of the skills currently demanded by employers in the technology industry.

The Ogun Tech Community said the workshops formed part of a broader vision to position Abeokuta and Ogun State as emerging hubs for digital talent development and technology innovation.

Participants were encouraged to join the community’s technology ecosystem, which provides access to mentorship opportunities, technical collaborations, hackathons and professional networking platforms.

The community also urged students to share acquired knowledge with their peers and actively participate in innovation-driven projects capable of addressing societal challenges through technology.

Organisers expressed optimism that sustained collaboration between academic institutions and industry practitioners would help produce graduates with stronger practical competencies and improve the state’s contribution to Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

They added that plans were underway to deepen engagements with tertiary institutions through additional masterclasses, innovation programmes and industry-led capacity-building initiatives focused on emerging technologies.
