Ogun govt sets up visitation panel on TASCE

Worried by the worsening standard at the Tai Solarin College of Education(TASCE), Omu-Ijebu, Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun has constituted a visitation panel on the institution.

A statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Kunle Somorin, said that the panel would be led by Prof. Kamal Balogun of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye.

According to the statement, the panel will among others, assess the current status of the institution with a view to ascertaining the attainment or otherwise of the objectives and law that established it.

It said that the panel would identify the challenges hindering the institution from achieving its objectives.

The statement said the panel would also examine the financial management of the institution and determine whether the funds from various sources have been prudently applied.

On the panel are leading Agricultural Economist and Farm Management scholar, Prof. John Aihonsu and the current President of TASCE Alumni Association, Mr Julius Adeyemi.

The panel also has as members Mr Joseph Onabanjo, a former director in the Ministry of Education and Dr Dapo Odukoya, a lawyer and former lecturer at the Tai Solarin University.

Also on the panel is Mr Adewale Ojuri, a former member of the State House of Assembly while Mr Samuel Adeetan, the Director of Planning, Statistics and Research at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, would serve as the secretary to the panel.

The statement stated that the governor had lamented the poor state of affairs and infrastructure at the school and called for stakeholders’ intervention on issues of content, quality and staffing.

“Ogun state is a front-runner in education and cannot afford to endure mediocrity and the state government would do everything humanly possible to reverse the slide to decadence observable form the way TASCE is currently operating,” the statement added.
