The Methodist Church, Kuole, Odo Ona, Ibadan, Oyo State, last Sunday empowered nine of its youths at a one-day training workshop.
According to the Presbyter of the Church, Very Reverend Olumide Aluko, the programme, tagged ‘The Methodist Entrepreneurship Assistance Programme (MEAP)’, “the scheme was to assist our young people in the church to be drawn more into entrepreneurship initiatives via good and marketable business ideas.
“Having realised that the youths are passing through a lot and considering the state of the Nigerian economy, approached a few friends of the church, who contributed N500,000 for the scheme,” he said.
While appreciating the donors of the capital, Aluko urged others to come to the aid of the youths who still need various forms of intervention.
In his sermon, entitled “The Praying Youth”, Mr Oluwole Ojo, noted that prayer is like money saved in the bank, as one can place oneself in a better position through prayer.
He urged the youths to be more prayerful because the kingdom of darkness is after them.
The chairman of the Empowerment Committee, Prince Segun Olugbile, noted that “youths are neglected in Nigeria, but the “Methodist Church Nigeria cannot afford to neglect them.”
He added that nine youths, males and females, between the age bracket of 21 and 35, benefitted from the interest-free N50,000 loan each.
He urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the loan and repay it on time for the benefit of other youths in the church.
Representing the beneficiaries, Sister Edeh Rebecca Susan appreciated the unrelenting efforts of Presbyter Aluko, the Empowerment Committee and members of the church, even as she promised that they would all make judicious use of the loan and repay on time.
