Obalufon stool: Adesola ruling house appeals to Makinde on due process

THE Omiwole family of Adesola ruling house in Sepeteri, Saki East Local Government Area of Oyo State has appealed to the state governor, Seyi Makinde to follow due process in the selection of the Obalufon of Sepeteri.

The family decried the recent purported selection of Prince Abdulfatai Oyebanji Oyediran for the Obalufon stool.

A release signed by the spokesperson of the family, Prince Omiwole Mojeed, said the selection was said to have taken place on March 18, 2025, at the Saki-East Local Government Area secretariat, which was coordinated by one of the council officials.

The release noted that five aspirants from Adesola ruling house namely, Princes Omiwole Oyeleke Moruff, Afolabi Oyetunde Abel, Omiwole Sola Najeem, Olakunle Olawoyin Olaleye and Abdulfatai Oyebanji Oyediran showed interest for the stool.

Prince Omiwole said that none of the contestants to the vacant stool was informed either verbally or in writing before the selection.

Omiwole disclosed that the state government wrote a letter through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters as requested by the chairman of Saki East Local Government Area to fill the vacant stool of Obalufon of Sepeteri, requesting for warrant kingmakers to replace the deceased chiefs.

The spokesperson noted that in the letter, the ministry approved the nomination of three members to serve as warrant chiefs to complement the existing kingmakers in the selection process of filling the vacant stool of Obalufon of Sepeteri.

According to the letter signed by the Director, in the Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters, A.M. Olajire, the existing kingmakers are the Paakanyin of Sepeteri, the Dagaan of Sepeteri and the Abese of Sepeteri, while Alhaji Lateef Yussuf, Chief (Mrs) Aisat Azeez (Otun Iyalode of Sepeteri) and Chief Ogunmodede Odediran were nominated as warrant chiefs.

The Omiwole family said those who organised the selection did not follow due process, just as they said that the Abese of Sepeteri, Chief Rasheed Olagbenro, who was among the confirmed Warrant chiefs was prevented from participating in the selection.

The Omiwole family of Adesola ruling house appealed to Governor Makinde to disregard the purported selection, adding that it is the turn of Adesola ruling house to produce the next Obalufon of Sepeteri.

The family advised the governor to ensure a transparent selection is conducted to determine the new Obalufon of Sepeteri that will be acceptable to all and sundry of the community.

“We trust our amiable governor he will ensure that proper things are done in the selection of Obalufon of Sepeteri, just as he demonstrated in the emergence of monarchs across the state, including the most recent Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade; the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi; the Onigboho of Igboho, Oba John Bolarinwa; the Alepata of Igboho, Oba Joel Bolarinwa, among others,” Prince Mojeed said.
