The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State command has ordered an immediate manhunt for armed robbers that have been terrorising the Oro Ago community in the Ifelodun local government area of the state.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the agrarian community has been under the siege of armed robbers in recent times, as many residents of the area had been violently attacked and the property was stolen.
In a statement by the Command’s public relations officer (PRO), Babawale Afolabi, in Ilorin on Thursday, the command said that the operatives of the corps will work together with the local vigilante in the community to ensure that all the criminal elements are rounded up and face the wrath of the law.
“It will be recalled that on Wednesday, 06/04/2022, about 19:45 hours, three armed men suspected to be thieves attacked one Dauda with a machete along Oke Oyan road, Oro Ago and made away with his motorcycle and other valuables. This was apart from leaving him unconscious and in his own pool of blood.
“On the same day, one Mr Seyi, another resident of Oro Ago community was attacked by yet-to-be-identified armed men who wanted to snatch his bike from him. But the victim was able to escape with a few machete cuts and his bike”, the statement said.
The NSCDC command, which said that detectives from its intelligence and investigation department later moved to the town, added that findings had revealed that the community had been under the siege of criminal elements believed to be Bororos.
It also said that the armed squad and tactical team of the corps are now working together with local vigilantes to locate the robbers.
“The commandant has ordered, with immediate effect, the deployment of the operatives from the armed squad unit and Operation Harmony tactical team to the town. They will liaise with the local security team to comb all the nooks and crannies of the town to fish out the criminals”.
