Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom will bring national healing, Winhomes boss tells Tinubu

Published by

Managing Director of Winhomes Global Services Limited, Engr. Stella Okengwu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, saying his freedom would accelerate peace, unity and national healing.

In an open letter to the President, Okengwu said her appeal was “not about politics,” but a call to restore calm and rebuild trust across regions.

While acknowledging that Tinubu did not initiate Kanu’s detention, she noted that he has the authority to “end the pain, close a dark chapter and open a new one filled with reconciliation and hope.”

According to her, the continued detention of the IPOB leader has contributed to heightened tension in the South-East and deepened divisions across the country—burdens she said “no nation seeking progress should carry.”

Okengwu maintained that Kanu’s release would reduce agitations, foster national unity and strengthen President Tinubu’s legacy as a leader who chose dialogue in a defining moment.

She added that many Nigerians view the move as an opportunity for the administration to set a new tone.

“It will calm the South-East. It will rebuild trust with the Igbo people. It will unite Nigerians across tribes. It will strengthen your legacy as a peacemaker. It will remove a major national distraction and empower dialogue over violence,” she wrote.

Appealing to Tinubu’s sense of empathy, Okengwu added: “Your Excellency, you understand struggle, injustice and the weight of being misunderstood. This is your moment to lead with compassion where others could not.”

She further described the emotional and national dimensions of the issue, noting: “A mother wants her son back. A region wants healing. A nation wants peace. And only you can make it happen.”

Okengwu concluded her letter with a plea to the President to release the detained IPOB leader adding that it would heal the country from its distresses.

“Let this be the moment Nigeria begins to heal. Choose unity. Choose peace. Choose Nigeria.”
