Police operatives in Niger State have arrested two suspected armed robbers in the state.
The suspects who have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna are said to be assisting police with the investigation into their criminal activities.
This is according to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wasiu Abiodun, which was made available to journalists on Sunday in Minna.
The statement added that on “23/08/2021 at about 2130hrs, acting on a credible information, Police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Suleja arrested two suspects, namely: Abdul Yahaya age 29yrs and Mustapha Abubakar age 28yrs, both ‘m’ of Sabo Angwan-Kwamba, Suleja.
“The said Abdul was arrested at an estate in Kwamba, Suleja where he attempted to snatch a handset from a victim and an alarm was raised which attracted mob action,” adding that a Police patrol team quickly mobilized to the scene, rescued and arrested him from the mob who had allegedly inflicted injury on the suspect.
DSP Abiodun stated that during the investigation, “the Police later conducted a search at the suspect’s residence and the following items were recovered: One locally-fabricated pistol with an empty cartridge, one-locally fabricated gun, one Dane gun, four knives, and three cutlasses.
Others, according to the statement, include one scissors, one camera, one security light, two ATM cards, one hammer, one stick, one motorcycle key, two pairs of black trousers and a black T-shirt and one black face cap, as well as four wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
DSP Abiodun said, “the suspects were equally reported to have robbed some victims at Gabodna market and made away with three mobile telephones, one ATM card, and an unquantified sums of money running into several thousands of Naira.”
The statement said, “effort is ongoing to apprehend the said Hamza, who escaped arrest by the Police and melted into thin air, while the two suspects arrested will be arraigned in court and prosecuted immediately the investigation is concluded.”
