IN a bid to solve the acute accommodation challenges in all the tertiary institutions in Niger State, the state government has approved the construction of new sets of hostels in all the institutions in the state.
The project, which will be in phases, will be kick-started with the construction of new blocks of hostels at the state-owned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, and Justice Fati Lami Abubakar Institute of Legal and Administrative Studies, Minna, the state capital.
According to the Commissioner for the Ministry of Tertiary Institutions, Mohammed Baba Adamu, the project will cost the government over N500 million.
While speaking with the newsmen at the Government House, Minna, over the weekend, Adamu stated further that the project was in fulfillment of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s promise to students of tertiary institutions during his statewide tour to improve on the accommodation condition in state-owned institutions.
“It is on record that the governor, during the mid-term assessment tour, approved the construction of additional hostels at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.

“To this end, a 250-bed two-storey hostel each for both males and females will be built in the university while a similar block of hostels will be constructed at the Justice Fati Lami Abubakar Institute of Legal and Administrative Studies.
“The two projects will gulp over N500 million, he stated.
Giving a breakdown, the commissioner said the males and females’ hostels at IBBU, Lapai would cost N447 million, while the female hostel at Justice Fati Lami Abubakar Institute of Legal and Administration Studies, Minna would cost N124 million.
The commissioner also noted that the proposed project is first among the schemes designed to cover the construction of hostels at the College of Agriculture, Mokwa, Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, as well as a construction of a cafeteria at Justice Fati Lami Abubakar Institute of Legal and Administrative Studies, Minna
