Newly elected Oyo LG bosses receive Certificates of Return

The newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 33 local government areas of Oyo State received their certificates of return from the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) on Friday.

All 33 chairmanship, vice chairmanship, and councillorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were declared winners of the April 27 election by the OYSIEC.

The Chairman of OYSIEC, Mr. Isiaka Olagunju, who presented the local government bosses with their certificates, charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate through good governance.

At the event held at the OYSIEC headquarters in Ibadan, Olagunju explained that it was essential for all elected officers to meet the expectations of the electorate.

He appreciated the security agencies for ensuring the security of lives and properties before, during, and after the election.

He also commended the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), political parties, the media, and other stakeholders for ensuring the successful conduct of the election.

“We thank God that no loss of life was recorded during the just-concluded local government council elections. I want to appeal to the candidates that did not make it now to be resolute and trust that, in future elections, they will make it. Sirs and ma’ams, you are representing the people of Oyo state; people should not experience any regret; their decisions should be well justified.

We equally thank the governor for the opportunity given to us to serve the people of the state and support towards conducting the elections.” Speaking, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Oyo State, Mr. Adegbenro Fagbemi, declared that the election was well-conducted.

He said the council monitored the seamless distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials to all OYSIEC local government offices. Adegbenro attributed hitches at polling units to the restriction of vehicular movements and fuel scarcity, as he called on politicians and the electorate to support the winners of the election.
