She never cared about our childless state, took to clubbing, husband tells court

Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has dissolved the marriage between a business man, Olaniyi Oluwole and his fashion designer wife, Olubunmi Olaniyi.

Olaniyi  had dragged his wife to court alleging that she had failed to give him  a child and had taken to clubbing.

The defendant refused to come to court after being served a court hearing twice.

Giving his judgment after listening to the plaintiff’s evidence, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade stated that it was obvious that their marriage had broken down irretrievably.

He added that the defendant’s refusal to show up in court signified she no more had interest in their union.

Ruling, Odunade dissolved their union, stating that both parties should maintain peace always.

Giving his evidence, Olaniyi told the court that:”My lord, what couples look forward to after getting married is to start having children of their own. But this dream has remained unfulfilled in my marriage.

“Women naturally feel uncomfortable when they experience a delay in bringing forth children. They try everything possible to have at least a child. But my wife’s case is the opposite. Aside seeking medical attention, I also went spiritual. I fasted and prayed consistently, but my wife is not just  bothered about our predicament.

“She has no respect for me and does whatever she likes.

“She leaves home without my permission and returns whatever time pleases her. If I complain, she shouts at me and sometimes fights me.

“Since she spends most of her time outside the home, she cares less if I eat or not. I have therefore taken up the responsibility of cooking in the house.

“My lord, my wife has now started clubbing. She visits clubs and joints and is always found in the midst of men.

“I reported her to her parents since she decided to flout my orders. They spoke to her, but rather than change, she got worse.

“My lord, I’m tired of my wife’s indecent lifestyle, please separate us so that I can move forward with my life.”
